Perodua sales improved 13% in December with 22,940 units registered

Perodua December sales rose by 13% to 22,940 units from 20,299 vehicles in November 2021 as countermeasures on intermittent supply disruption due to Covid-19 began to see positive results.

“We thank our customers for their support and understanding, especially those who have been waiting patiently for their Perodua vehicle. God willing, deliveries will further improve in the coming months,” Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Zainal Abidin Ahmad said.

On an annual basis, Perodua registered 190,291 vehicles in 2021, falling by 13.6% from 220,154 units sold in 2020 as the impact of Covid-19, the semiconductor chip supply disruption and the recent floods adversely impacted production.

“The 190,291 registrations were below our target of 200,000 units for 2021 as the challenges in 2021 was greater than anticipated,” Dato’ Zainal said.

He said, despite this, the Myvi continues to lead the overall Malaysian market in terms of sales by model with 47,525 units followed by the Axia and Bezza dominating the country’s A segment market.

On an industry overview, Dato’ Zainal said that the total industry volume (TIV) for the year would also see a similar sales impact with an estimated decrease of 4.5% to 504,536 units from 528,172 units sold in the year 2020.

“In December, we forecasted a 240,000 sales target for 2022, however, we will likely review that figure later this month (January) as we are taking into account the latest developments and events into consideration,” he said.
  
Regarding the recent Perodua Flood Assistance programme, Dato’ Zainal said about 1,675 people have responded to the programme and those vehicles are being inspected at Perodua service centres across the country.

“The Perodua Flood Assistance programme, which was announced by the Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri on 26 December 2021, has drawn a lot of interest from the public”.

“Our priority now is to work with the insurance companies as well as other our other partners to hasten any approval process needed to repair and restore the flood damaged vehicles.

“We understand that most of our customers rely on their Perodua for their daily activities and we will do our best to assist,” Dato’ Zainal said.
